Fall in the Carpathians

Just wondering if the top 1/3 adds depth to the whole picture or would better be left out.

A very pleasant looking shot.....a nice mix of colours and shading. The soft hills adds some depth to the scene....and the red roofs add some extra punch of colour and life to the shot. Nice scenery......just wondering what kind of lighting was this taken during the day....

Sandi,
This was taken at 3:07 PM on October 20.
It's a village spread on a hilly area, and at any time of day the light is bound to fall gracefully on some slope.
This area inspired a whole school of painting back in the 70's.

The lighting on the landscape creates the sense for me of a manmade landscape for something like a model train setup... this sense is even stronger when one crops down and lessens the impact on the whole image of the area in the far background.

Jan,
Do you mean that the top part makes the whole image more real/credible, as opposed to manmade?

I like the colors and the soft light in this photo, and I think it works well with the background. Very good

Very nice, love the light and the soft colors. The background is fine to me. If anything, might try to avoid those branches on the left edge. Love it any way.

A lovely pastoral scene, like from a fairy tale - nice light, the softness gives a dreamy effect, great colors. I agree with Maria but it looks like you had a limited view from which to shoot.

I think it works either way ( 1/3 cropped or not)

Thank you all for comments & critiques!

@ Maria Salvador, Paul Cooper & Rory Hudson: I can't remember very well the moment when I took the picture but the branches on the left are more likely something I included on purpose. (I do this sometimes, when I think it can add depth to the picture.) In this case, I might have included the branches on the left as a balance for the yellow branches bottom-right, which I seem to remember I just couldn't avoid.
