In color.

Both images are lovely but my preference is for the B&W. In the B&W image the eyes are the centres of attention (as they ought to be in a portrait) but in the colur version, the red of their lips is a distraction, red being such a powerful colour - hence the use of red lipstick by you girls. I'm sure some photographer once said something like: "In B&W you photograph a person's soul but in colour you photograph the clothes". I happen to go along with that for most portraits.

I thought initially that I would like to try and convert the colored version to b&w rather than sepia but the resulting pictures didn't turn out to have the visual impact of the posted sepia image (especially the eyes which lost the power that they have in the posted version). I would agree with John that the b&w version has a stronger visual impact for me with the eyes becoming the focus of the image with the colored elements (especially the red of the lips) fighting for the attention of the viewer along with the young girls' eyes.

The more subdued feel of the OP seems to suit the subject matter best. Good choice of sepia tone.

Beautiful girls! Love the B&W.

Two lovely portraits of the sisters and it's difficul to chose which one is the best. Who culd resist those expressions but on reflection perhaps the B/W.

The girl on the left looks a little unsure of you Julie - and I feel I would brighten the picture my just a very small amount - but the eyes are the important factor.

I actually like the colour version. Their skin has such a nice colour to it. In either case it's a very pretty image and I like the fact that they both are reacting so differently.

Agree with Dennis ...it's hard to choose which one I like the best! Awesome portrait Julie!

Prettiest girls for the nicest close-up... :)
Very beautiful indeed...

Both versions are beautiful. For me the B&W is about expressive eyes, and the color is about smiles. I may prefer the color - for a hair...

Thank you all so much for your favorable comments.
I had not thought of the B&W as playing up their eyes and the color version as being all about their smiles, Arfon, Jan and Maria. I see that is so true now that you all bring it to my attention. I knew I liked the b/w better, but couldn't put my finger as to why, now I know. I wanted it to be about their eyes, which is what I thought made it above average for me.
And the rest of you just have a special knack for making me feel good...no wonder I like you! '0)
Seriously, I so appreciate you guys.

They are two beautiful girls whether in B&W or in colour. I hate having to choose. So I won't.

Comments by Julie M. Dant on Mon, 08/25/08 21:23

Thanks for the comment Linda, and it's ok, I don't expect ya to choose..;0) I made my choice obviously by posting the b/w, but I liked the color one as well. They are just sweet, sweet girls..always waving at us as we drive down the alley by their house. The younger one doesn't speak English so she lets her older sister do the talking.
