Lower Ruckel Creek

Taken in muted (clouds) light using 'daylight' setting in forest setting with intent
of showing vibrant greens of the moss covering the rocks, silky, yet defined,
meandering water working its way to the Columbia River from Mt. Hood,
Oregon. April, 11:30 am., Canon Rebel XSI, focal length: 10, f.22, 2 sec.
exposure, camera on tripod.

Live the lush greens and the "silky" water. Wall hanger!

I like this image (particularly when set against a grey background which works to give more definition to the detailing) for all the shades of green that one can find in this shady area, the diagonal flow of the stream which works to lead the eyes of the viewer back through the image from the lower right to the upper left, and the textural feel that comes through from the moss covered rocks.

Very lovely! Love the greens and the softness of the water.

Dennis, thanks for the "hanger" award. I'll try and find a spot on the wall.
Jan & 'Ditto' Ruth, the grey background does work well. I'm used to using black - - maybe
too much with this photo. I appreciate your comments on the composition, as I tried to
get a flow from corner to corner, yet keeping a format that wasn't too square.
Sandi, this was a day well spent tromping through the forest enjoying, not only the lush
greens of the moss on the rocks and the splash of the falls and creek, but the enjoyment
of being less than 20 miles from my home in urban Portland, Oregon.
Oh, by the way, this is my FIRST post to Photo Critique, and I'm looking forward to hearing
some valued, sincere evaluation of my future photography. I'm about 6 months into this
wonderful sport called 'recording something that you find very enjoyable and impressive
at a given moment and being able to linger over that 125th of a second over and over at a
later time.

The long exposure gives you an excellent DOF. The white water is set nicely against the green moss. Nicely done!

Love the detail in the foreground mosses and ferns, and the time-softened water contrasts nicely. Lucky you, living so close to such beauty.

I love the green velvet feel to this photograph.

Thank you Mo, Linda, and Kathrn for your comments. I'm going to try another trip up the
gorge this week and visit some other falls while the water volume is high.
