Topsail Cottage Porch

Steve's gorgeous recent Topsail Island scene spurred me to look up some of my vacation shots from there. Here's one of the oceanfront screened in porches of the vintage 'Mom and Pop' Topsail Motel on the island. I am sharing a few more photos of it in the comments section for anyone who likes to stay in these old places that are gradually being replaced by the bigger motels. They have so much character as do many of their owners! ;0)

Your images bring back memories for me of a summer I spent on Lake Chelan in Washington state... I look back on days such as that summer now as a far simpler time when it was possible for one to relax and get away from it all... not something that is possible right now... witness this very computer I'm punching out this comment on.

nice series-LOVE the colors in the OP-I always look to stay in places with character-hotels are cookie-cutter and smell funny :-)

Great perspective, Julie, looking through 3 windows. The colors are good and snappy. I'd crop off the top window to simplify composition, and keep your viewer's eye on the subject - the 3 windows. I, too, prefer the mom and pop motels. This summer I was disappointed to find they replaced mine at Traverse City.

hi Julie, love the colors on the OP, as well as the composition. However, IMHO I would crop out the top left window; you don't really need it and without it your composition is much more unified and stronger. Love the other shots you took too. Like the clothes line shot. And the top black and white is nice too; imho, i'd also crop out that extra window on the top right which you don't need. Keep up the great work.

Lots to like about the OP, Julie. I love the contrasting colours, and all the rectangles.

My kind of shot, that OP. Good one ! And the last one The ClothPin and screen looks very interesting (but we just got to see the tiny size, boo whoo )

Nice series here. I particularly like the OP for its colours and design, and the way you can see the reflections in the window. Those pegs are good on their own too!

Nice set! I'll take the OP. Two for the price of one! Comes with the clothes line too!

Agree with Linda, Rory and John W's comments. Love the colors and all those rectangles, including the top one. Those chairs are nice too...
