I like this reduced color expression which assists the image in conveying its message.

The toning of the image and the light highlighting the vertical nature of the grave marker works for me. Looks as if this is a well tended site for a grave that is nearly 150 years old.

Well processed to give an "old" look. The woodsy setting works well.

I like the toning, too. Interesting subject.

I didn't say how wonderfully sharp the lettering is on that stone. Maybe being in the trees has helped to protect it, but you did a good job on the photo, Julie.

I like the toning too. A nice find, and the flags give it a lot of emotion.

Excellent! Wonderful composition and detail. Reminds me of Gettysburg--one of my favorite places.

Nice photo and nice work Julie...excellent focus on the main subject. Good camera work or good after blur & sharpening...doesn't matter, it turned out great. Love the sharp edges of the stone.

I see you like cemetery shots, too!! I like the sepia toning on this. Very appropriate.

Hi, foot and mouth diseased Julie !
This is Caillault. Yes, I do have a first name, it's Michel, I am french and live in the
southern part of the country, where the sun shines and where you can drink a
wonderful wine !
I guess you are american, I know your country well, I love it and the people
who live in it !
I tried more than once to use your e-mail address to answer your comments but my e-mails were
all the time returned right back to me.
Let's see if I'll be luckier this time. (Actually, I wasn't, that's why I have to use the site again !)
P.S. Your tombstone is beautiful, and very touching. (Maybe a tad more contrast and light would do a little good..... ?)

Hi Julie, thanks for the answer.
Now, see the way I meant "a tad more light and contrast".
I do not claim my version is better than yours, just what I would have done had this picture been mine.
Michel

Michel, thanks for the visual suggestion. I see what you mean. It really brings out the details on the trees well and I believe the stone itself pops out more to the viewer. I like your idea, too, but I think I will stay with the darkened shot as I believe it conveys a more somber mood befitting the subject matter. I will experiment some more, though, as I love to get ideas and hope you will continue to suggest yours for me, so thanks a lot!

I prefer the OP dark muted version

Ditto for me on the mood of the op. Good work!
