American Male Wigeon

D80, ISO800, F8, 270mm

These are American Wigeons. The male is the one with the shade of green around the head. During the winter months they spend their time feeding whereever there are open fields near an unfrozen lake or pond. We are lucky as Sullivan's Pond in Dartmouth NS provides an ideal location for them and as well as for us photographers. During the summer they nest far from the city making them much harder to photograph.

I like both of your pictures. The opening image is striking with the contrast between the American Wigeon and the background working to bring a 3D feel to the picture. I like the color, the clarity of detailing and how you managed to capture both the inside and outside of the wings of the Wigeon. This is superb.

The second image shows the contrast between the male and female Wigeon and I like how you caught the male with one webbed foot lifted off the ground.

So beautiful, wonderful creatures... :)
Thank you so much, Gerry.

You did a great job on capturing them. I like both images, but I really enjoy looking at the second one the best. The male and female look so lovely and tender together...:-)

The OP is outstanding with the out of focus background and the colors of the Wigeon
complimenting the background. The second is OK. It's a pretty routine duck out-of-water
shot.

Beautiful OP, the goal of all bird photographers.

Great to see the wings in flight. The background is nicely blurred too.
