Aye mates, twas a cold morning and that scurrilous rufian Cam Shira and his gang of six (The ColdAires) was sneaking up on the castle......the fog was drifting in from the moors.......fortunately Stella the Mighty was alert and warned us of the impending attack....the drawbridge over the moat was raised just in time.

Great BG for Stella. Nicely composed. I don't think she really wants to go out there. You might want to get rid of the triangle in ULC.

Excellent work!

I really like the contrast between the snowy landscape and Stella's coloring which works to make her stand out strongly in the image and just the nature of her pose... as if saying: "If you want me to go out there you had better put down that camera and get a leash and take me for a walk."

Very well done. There must be many great shots out there in the woods. (That bit of red in the colar helps, too)

Great contrast, looks cold and I love it.

Thanks everyone - Good suggestion Ruth re cropping: (lightened up the image a bit also)

I'd continue on with some cropping. The wire basket on the right could go. If you don't mind losing some of the woods you could make this a vertical by cropping just inside the large tree to the right of the dog. If you still want the big tree you lose a little at the top cropping out the basket. A very nice scene however you leave it.

I hope she's not thinking about jumping. And if not, maybe she should have some boots on for better grip. Wouldn't want her to fall. ;-)

regardless of the dog (who does looks nice, don;t get me wrong), I hope you got out and shot some serious stuff; those trees look absolutely gorgeous!

I think the rework improves it, but I wouldn't do any more cropping than that. Very good capture.

Stella looks great and so does the image and that great view, I like the posted image best.

I like the darker version, but I think I agree about the crop. Very nice all around.

I think the mighty Stella is perpexed by the change in scenery and is going to WIMP out rather than charging forth to protect the castle. The crop is a plus. The tones come out a bit better on my monitor as tweaked. Good shot!

She looks like she's been standing there for a while, :-)...

Frog dog? I had visions of a amphibian sausage on a bun.

The second version looks much better from a tonal point of view.

I think she is sad because there are no frogs..:0) Really like this post.
I took the liberty to clone out the wire basket as Jeff suggested for a comparison..hope you don't mind.
Don't know that it is any better or any worse, just a different idea. Actually, the more I look at it, it may give it a bareness over there without it. Can't decide.:)
Whatever the case I think Stella is a beautiful canine and she stands so colorfully in front of that wonderful misty winter woods

Thanks everyone for the comments - good PSing Julie - that does take away the distraction of the basket - I had thought about cropping it out but the woods add to the shot.

Stella usually stands more to the left and "guards" the trail below - barking at dogs she doesn't like and wagging her tail at others......not sure what it is that makes her decide which ones to like.......:-)

Tony - tired of this cold... heading south to stay with an old rugby buddy, Dr M who has a house on the beach in Costa Rica. Will try to do some serious photography!

Here's a shot of this infamous radiologist at a spaghetti team dinner that turned into a food fight ('72). Dr M is 2d from the right - he's never been known not to have a good time.
