Murphy's Law, St. Petersburg to Ft. Lauderdale Race

This was a storied race, with many boats encountering difficulties in the
afternoon big winds while sailing downwind, then that night after turning the
mark at Key West and sailing into winds of 35mph or so with big waves. A few
boats lost rudders at the mark. No fun at the time, but fun to remember.

You got a great viewpoint for this photograph with the wind filling out the sails. The contrast between the water and the boat (but especially the sails) serves to make these elements stand out strongly in the image. Striking image in full sail...

Great image and as Jan said, great action. Having sailed for over 40 years in a past life, I love it.

Being another former sailor, I love it, too. Where were you? On the mast of another sailboat?

Beautiful! Fantastic colors.

I was wondering the same as Ruth... On a bridge? Mast of a boat? Helicopter? Hot-air balloon? Blimp?

Well, it wasn't a skyhook.

Almost seven miles offshore, I was in a small chartered helicopter with pilot.
