At Ease

Taken this year in Yosemite. I spotted a group of these girls laying among some bushes beside the road. There was a very small meadow right in front of them so I just grabbed my camera and sat down right out in the open. They didn't seem to care about me at all and came out to eat in a few minutes. This was taken laying down, hand held with a 300mm f4 at f4.5 and 1/50, iso 400. I later raised the iso because they never really stopped, always moving, chewing and twitching. 50% crop from original. As always, I appreciate your comments and suggestions. Greg

I like the low viewpoint that you adopted for this image (with the blurred grass along the bottom edge and the deer feeding on the grass one has the sense when viewing the picture of being right in the setting).

With the ear perked up one has the sense that though the deer is feeding rather casually on the grass that in reality the creature is quite alert ready for any danger that might arise.

Very nice viewpoint! I like the sharpness of the deer and the softness of the foreground grasses. My only nit (a tiny one) is the background trees, but I am sure you couldn't avoid that. But it's still a lovely shot.

I like the background trees. It gives depth and adds interest.

more with Sandi on the trees, but the grass and the sharpness of the animal are amazing

Beautiful creature.
Beautiful image.

But I think a vertical presentation with a crop not only removes some distractions
but emphasizes the delicate blue flowers and gentle presence of the deer.

Hi greg. Working off an iPad having fun in heber. Going light with gear is great
when the trip isnt photo centered but the g is turning out some good stuff including a
bride in salt lake. This deer photo is very nice. Different than the usual although that
twisty background does draw attention. Been on the lookout for a moose. Close to the
road i hope but not in front of the car. Wish I had a regular keyboard. This one is
difficult. The 19th is drawing close. Will see you then if not before. Fly home on the
13th.

Nice detail and texture caught. Hard to compose when they have the munchies like this.

Overall think the main subject should of taken up more of the frame. Am taking it as cropped version and wondered if you had anymore on the left to play with.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I did have more room to the left, right and top.

I do like the crop suggestions, they all are well taken.

Very nice close up. But my favourite part of the photo is the line of blue flowers.

Ditto Linda!
So beautiful those little flowers with the grass. I think I would remove some from the top.
