Having lived in large cities (large by Canadian standards) nearly all my life the small town feel is something that I only get to experience when I travel and if I can scare up memories of my life when I was a young boy growing up in a small logging town. This picture captures a feel for me of that all day drive and finally looking for a place to bunk down for the night and I always searched out the small towns because there was a sense of tranquility... peacefulness... and security for me there and the next morning more than likely I could find a restaurant that would serve a real breakfast.

Well said Jan...
And the title is chosen well: my HOME town.
True life is the true home, mostly.
Except for the adventures to look all around what the world looks like.
That's what the snow, the usual light, the empty streets, suggest me, grace to the sweet image taken by Julie in her HOME town... :)

Bien dite Jan...

Glad you got out there while it was snowing! Nice to see the snow lit by the streetlight.

This sent me back to Alexey Tikhonov's gallery. It's a few pages in,(with lots of great non-snow shots along the way) but he used to post night snow shots.

Cool photo, that has an eerie feeling about it. I love the way the light is being diffused and the snow streaked as it comes down. The blanket of snow provides light for excellent definition of the buildings.

No footprints and just that one set of car tyre tracks. Glad you stayed out late to get this Julie - it represents a quiet place.

Excellent, Julie !! They must have left the lights on for you.

Love the sparkler on top and the sparkles down low.

Waht really grabs me here is the street lamp in the front and as Ruth said it has a sparkler effect. Very cool shot!

Alan, :0).. you had me laughing out loud on the lucky seventh comment!! So I'm glad you liked my Frigid Fireworks and I thank you seven times! You're not the seventh son of a seventh son, are you? I guess that'd be asking too much...
Zorro! (do you have a first name? If I"ve asked you this before, I'm sorry.) Thanks to you, but only once..;0) My home town is Washington, IN..aprx. 12,000 people. All the excitement in the streets just making you want to come visit?! ;0)
Deb, thanks..the wind was blowing pretty stiffly and buffeting in different directions that night so that my hair kept blinding me. I had to finally grab a hank of it and twist it and hold it in my mouth to be able to get the shot, so I was grateful there wasn't any traffic..;0)
Thanks Steve and Rick. And Greg and John, Jan and Pietro thanks also to you. And also Linda and Ruth! Linda thanks for mentioning Alexey's night snow shots. I went back and looked at them...He is really a great photographer, so I enjoyed the trip. ;0)
I sure appreciate all your comments everyone! Thanks again.

Ditto to Alan's comments (all of them!) Love the 'sparkler effect' too, and the composition, and the quietness, and all...
