High Priest

I took this photo last Saturday, in a local Pageant (Malta). Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Wonderful, and mysterious light.
The guy is a great actor. Did you coach him toward this expression?

I like the manner in which the light highlights the man's face and his beard, the clarity of detailing once again to be found in the features of the individual, and the catchlights in the eyes which helps to focus the viewer's attention on the man's face.

Wonderful lighting--great detail--how do you achieve such consistently incredible portraits? Fantastic!

Very well done but one nit -- the reflection from his crown shows a bright street scene in contrast to the dark tones of the rest of the image.

The tones and hues are great as usual, but something bothers me about the composition, but I can't put my finger on it. I know you wanted all the headdress in there, so maybe more space in front of him? Also, the beard seems to have a couple of soft spots.

Following Ruth's comment I added texture to the beard and increased space to the left and bottom.

The burn is a little heavy, especially up top on the head piece. You want the fall off to appear natural so that it doesn't call attention to itself.

its all in the eyes with this one... not even considering the consistent use of browntown and lighting. my monitor shows the headpiece in about a zone 2-3 which seems appropriate for your style. so come on christopher, tell us all, how DO you do it? some hints bleed through in the reflection, but not informationally enough for me. keep up the great work.

I like the OP best and agree that you do consistently good work!

I'll let you decide which is best, as you obviously know more about it than I do! Another stunning portrait, Christopher.

Christopher, I just took a tour of your gallery which for some reason I'd never seen before. You're truly a master of portraiture and lighting. One of your posts you mentioned you were trying to achieve a painting-like effect. I'd say this one, "High Priest", is most painterly. I almost thought it was an oil painting at first glance.
Hats off to ya!

The extra room on the left is a plus, IMO. Super work as ususal.
