Finely detailed view of the hover fly and those eyes... they look to be larger than the head of the fly.

Do these creatures also collect pollen or do they go after the little insects one finds in flowers?

Thanks Jan. The hovers collect the pollen only. They are also called flower flies. All these shots were cropped to show the details.

Not bee.
Not wasp either.
Though it is pretending to bee wasp.

Harmless to humans.
Can actually crush and feed on pollen grains.
Larva feed on and control pests like aphids.
Very effective pollinators often outperforming native bees.

Compound eyes touching at the top are definitive.

Good to get anything of these tinny critters.

The OP is best IMO. The fly is crisp with detail. Excellent comp too. Love the title as well!

Difficult captures, well done, the OP is my preferred image,

As an image to work with I prefer the second.
The third looks a little flat tonally but is very nice.
