I love the black and white treatment. The clouds, the sign, and the intersection of the railroad line and the dirt lane combine to tell an expressive story of rural life.

This may be rural Indiana but the setting strikes me as a vision of the Canadian Prairies as one travels from Manitoba to Alberta. The dirt road leading the eyes of the viewer to the distant cloudy sky, the railroad signal warning of the crossing, and the fields of grain all say Prairies to me. The clouds particularly capture my eye and speak to me of traveling through the area... homeward bound after a vacation. I might have cropped down to the first set of clouds and thus filled the upper portion of the composition completely with the clouds.

I wonder how often a train passes this point?
Another excellent photographic opportunity, well taken and produced.

I think the mono brings out the detailof this picture so well. Yes how often does the train pass Julie.

A classic image - print it, frame it and hang it - it's great!

Good work here Julie. The horizontal rail line functions as a sort of barrier or border, as if to say that beyond it lies the unknown. That's reinforced by the sign. Tones are well handled. Only thing is, there's a bit of noise in the upper sky which you should get rid of.

Very nice simplicity of the composition and again a great B&W. Interesting mix of textures, too.

This is an excellent shot Julie! I find the sense of lonliness very compelling. For me this is a alien landscape as I live by the ocean, under the gaze of mountains. I've always found the prairie to be magical, yet a bit unnerving....especially around corn!!! I love the way the road rises disappears over the horizon and I get a sense of foreboding about what is at the end of it. If this were in colour I think that the feeling would be entirely the opposite. Such is the power of BW!
