Excellent. I'm looking at it on an iPad and turned it so it was vertical with the fungi (?) in
the bottom area. A stronger orientation IMO.

An eerie almost sci-fi alien world feel to your composition from the tree stump. Setting the image against a black background enhances the detailing to be found in the fungi and the stump itself while at the same time giving increasing the textural feel from the stump and the fungi.

Nice work.

Wonderful take, Ruth... :)
I can almost feel the scent of the stump and of the fungi.

Thanks Jeff. Although it's a nature photo, and I like to leave them as is except for tonal adjustments, I tried it to see what you saw. It does make a pleasing composition, but....the light would then come from BELOW, which doesn't look right! This was taken in natural light; not flash. I try to be mindful about light.

Intriguing.

Lots of ways one can view and interpret this one

I like the photo Ruth, the detail and texture are promising, for my
taste I want to be closer, I'd like to see more detail in the fungi.
For me, I hear the call of my macro lens.

Heh heh, I see you've discovered the joys of one of my "specialties", stump shooting! You'd be amazed at the variety of interesting photo subjects you can find in a stump, and you have a nice one there. I particularly like how the positive space (the fungi) and the negative space ( the open middle of the stump) offset each other.
