Dang, it fit!!!

My very good friend, Bill Leggett, who post here coaxed me into posting a few images. As many of you know I posted here regularly for a few years. At that time I was posting on around 6 other sites. I decided it was just too much and was not fair that I didn't have the time to comment on others images. So I settled on two sites for my images. NPN, nature photographers network, where I'm the moderator in the Macro/Closeup forums and Pbase. Pbase is a great site for exposure as I use money from the sales of my images to supliment the purchase of new equipment. Pbase really doesn't have the sense of family as Photocritique but it does get me many image sales.
Anyway, it's real nice to see so many familiar names still posting here after all these years. As Bill mentioned in his last posting, we had a great time shooting at Lake Martin and discussing photography in general.
Here is a shot I took last Friday in a swamp near my home in Prairieville, Louisiana. I came across this Anhinga just as the sun broke the horizon. I was on a road, he was on an old cypress tree stump and the sun was rising behind him. Of coarse it would have been nice to have the sun light him up but that was not the case and nothing I could do about that but shoot a silhouette.
Image was taken with a Nikon D200, Nikon 300mm f/4d AF-S lens and a Nikon TC17EII (1.7 teleconverter). I took this one from my truck window on a homemade window mount.

I cannot imagine that this picture would be any stronger with the bird highlighted... one would think that you would lose the sense of the fish seemingly swimming right down the throat of the Anhinga. The contrast between the muted color of the water and that of both the fish and the bird really works to make those two elements visually "pop" in the picture. Hope you will be posting some more of your shots... I enjoyed the ones of yours that I've seen in the past.

Excellent Ronnie. The silhouette has a strong graphic appeal. The small details of the fish's transparent fins makes this really special.

Very nice, Ronnie! Glad to see some of your work again!

Looks like the bird's head has been replaced by the fish, but no matter, the bird has won.

Excellent as always.

Hello Ronnie! I just saw my first ever Anhinga just a few weeks ago in one of Rick's posts and now here is another...56 years and I see 2 in one month..;0) I love the silhouette and agree with Jan that this is great just as it is. The fact both fins and tail of the fish are transparently letting the sun through is making the image for me. Wonderful. I just checked your gallery and am amazed at your skill at capturing all things in nature. Wonderful stuff there!

I'm very glad to see your photos on PC again! This one is wonderful, as very usual on your gallery!

The rim lighting on the bird, and the sun coming through the fish's fins makes the photo more dramatic. Dare I say it????? Great catch!

Message from Ronnie Gaubert November 23, 2010
Hello,
As most of you already know I was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) over a year ago. A group of family and friends have come together in support of a fund drive to help with ALS research. There are several activities in progress at this time. The one project that I’m actively involved with is a print sale. I’m offering 32 of my favorite images in various print sizes to 16” x 24”.
My best friend, David Chauvin, generously offered to use his personal website for the print sale. David also is donating any sales of his prints to this effort. Please take time to view David’s spectacular imagery. Click below on David's name to access the print sale page on his site.

As part of the donation I am having 40 large prints custom framed. Many will go on permanent display at the Methodist Hospital ALS clinic in Houston, Texas. Some will be auctioned by the clinic. Click below on ALS clinic for more info.
ALS CLINIC

I have personally put up $1,800 towards the print project. I think we all know the high price of custom framing. Our goal is $5,000. All money generated over the framing cost will be donated to ALS research. I WILL NOT use any of the money to repay my donation. We are also accepting cash donations.

THIS FUND DRIVE WILL END ON DECEMBER 31, 2010.
Thanks,

Ronnie & Cindy Gaubert

The link doesn't work in the above message. I found it at http://www.pbase.com/ronnie_14187/profile

Maybe someone else could make it into a hyperlink? I could try, but it might take a few attempts.

Glad to see you are in good spirits, Ronnie. Your photos are always an inspiration to me.

Thanks Bob and Linda,
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm amazed that after all these year I still see the same people here. Not many sites are like photocritique.
I'm not very good with links but I'll give it a shot.

Those of you who frequent other photo websites may already know this, but for those who haven't heard, Ronnie passed away May 5. So sad to hear that ALS has taken another PC member from us.

Thanks, Maria.
