I did not add anything to this photo. The tree and ladder I was lucky enough to spot in the country recently.

A very mysterious feel to the image... one is tempted to suggest a Halloween presentation with that sense being created by the nature of the tree with its branches twisting every which way, the b&w format which heightens the sense of mystery, and the light ladder leading the eyes of viewer up from the safety of the ground to be captured in the branches of the tree. An intriguing sighting which has form, flow and texturing to enhance the moody feel of the composition.

I think I recognize that sky! Just kidding! No, really, that ladder looks familiar. Do you ever get sunny skies up there?

Awesome tree! Needs a good tire swing.

Yeah, that's it! Put in a tire swing and the children will come!

I like this image. I think that part of the impact is that you have filled the frame with the tree. The old ladder leaning against the tree is a nice touch.

You don't have to make any excuses for this great image. I don't care where or how you got it. I'm looking at it and enjoying it. You should post it smaller so we get the impact all at once instead of scrolling it up and down. Keep it coming G. B.

The kids climbed the tree and it got them? Or is it the ladder/Lindberg baby kidnapping association?

Those Manitoba maples grow pretty big in Manitoba.

Very dramatic image. I like it

Obviously, the ladder wood came from a tree friend of the big maple and they are embracing after some years apart. Very tender scene, Greg.

The tree has alot of character enhanced by B&W. A one item wish list would be for gray skies in the URHC so the branches stood out like they do in the ULHC. I'm curious about how many compositions you worked out assuming a fence didn't keep you at a distance. Although I really like what you've done here it looks like a one shot documentary from a road or path. Nothing wrong with that but this scene begs for more time, especially a focal length in the 18-24mm (digi or film) range and progressively moving in closer until the viewer feels like the ladder is right there to grab and climb.

Quite dramatic tree and sky, and then there it is the ladder, to put one's imagination at work!

The ladder on the tree comes out at you.The tree is so huge and very intense. The clouds have nice light some are light or dark. The things that really caches my eye are the clouds and the tree.Even though the ladder should but it doesnt. I like everything in it the lighting and the perspective

I think it lacks contrast and agree about the URHC; it's too dark. I
also wish that the ends of the branches where not cropped.

Hey ! who's dragging up some of my photo's while I am working under the house adding extra insulation. You realise it snowed here the otherday. Back to reality- I did tone down this photo a touch after printing a copy and after Richard visited me and had viewed a print. I think Richard liked this print. I am also happy to say I sold a print of this photo. And the Gallery had wanted another one, as they felt they could sell more. That Gallery is now closed...so maybe you were right ! for a bonus Richard if you can answer your own special skilled question- I will send you a free print. * I was actually working on a photo a couple of weeks ago - with yard work - I think I am another week away. Hope you all had a great weekend -was ThanksGiving in Canada and Columbus Day in the fancy USA. Hi, Gang !! I miss you. (I hate my wife- she is keepimg me to busy)oops our anniversary was just yesterday .....she loves me I know she does (Hmmmm)

Fleet Galleries is closed?

Comments by G.B. SHETTLER on Tue, 10/13/09 22:25

Hi Richard- hope all is well with you. All is well with me. No, there was a Gallery in Selkirk, that I was also selling out of and it has closed down. He chose this photo for his gallery as Fleet did not choose this one for their's. Fleet still has some other ones, next to John's. But I have not checked with Fleet since I think April. Bad boy, I am.

A belated happy anniversary, Greg. How has your wife managed to put up with you all these years?

John, he has to finish his house repairs first! Don't mess with him.

I am a lucky guy - my wife, not so lucky. I am about a week away from getting back to my photos. I was half way through a B&W comp...and then was told I had some other things I better start doing. I try to do what ever the boss (wife) tells me to do. I ain't that stupid, I do what I am told. Thanks Linda !! Hi John !!
