Two Old Friends
Comments by Rick Longworth on Sun, 02/17/08 08:26 The wrinkled old tree seems to be twisting in slo-mo. Nicely sun dreanched. Good composition. Comments by Jan Bjorklund on Sun, 02/17/08 08:28 I like the manner in which the sunlight highlights the tree, the spoked wheel and the small stonework wall and gives them a golden glow... with that in mind I find myself wanting to crop to central 1/3 of the image excluding the more distant scenes on each side of the tree. The picture really works particularly well with a black background... the golden glow of the various elements is both heightened and complemented. Comments by Don Cole on Sun, 02/17/08 09:01 The early/late sun on the tree and its island really makes this photo. Perfect timing. Comments by Michael Dreese on Sun, 02/17/08 09:25 I agree with the others in that the lighting is perfect to highlight your subject. I like the inclusion of the building in the background. To me it conveys a relationship between the artifacts and the structure. The only minor point I have is with the twigs in the foreground. I find them a bit distracting but this is merely a minor criticism of a very pleasing image. Comments by Jeff Dye on Sun, 02/17/08 11:09 The lighting is very good and the composition is OK as a starting point toward something better IMO. With the wheels being the subject there's too many distractions in other areas of the scene. The building is so far away that I don't see the connection between the two. A vertical, much closer composition would tell the story. Watch the edge of the frame and there's nothing wrong with tossing out a dead branch like the one on the bricks. Comments by Frank B on Sun, 02/17/08 11:10 Love the beautiful sunlight and the gnarls in the tree. Nice composition. Comments by Ruth Rittichier on Sun, 02/17/08 11:10 Gorgeous light, and a perfect background. Comments by Dave Geyer on Sun, 02/17/08 11:54 Beautiful interaction between warm light and texture on the tree, with a wonderful setting. I like this a lot! Um, about those weeds in the immediate foreground? Comments by Barry Dickieson on Sun, 02/17/08 17:22 You caught the light beautifully including the distant hills and the shadow between. Comments by Tom Mallon on Sun, 02/17/08 22:23 The sun on the tree is very effective, Tom likes it- keep the weeds, they add context and depth! Comments by John Wise on Sun, 02/17/08 23:24 Great light highlighting the old wheels and the textures of the tree trunk. I like the connection of the wheels and the old barn in the distance. I would definately clone out the protruding sticks in the foreground. If they don't add to it... subtract it! Comments by Maria Salvador on Mon, 02/18/08 10:17 I like the overall composition and the wonderful light. Lovely colors too. Comments by John Long on Mon, 02/18/08 11:25 This is a great composition Julie, photographed from just the right position and with the sun catching the main elements of the picture perfectly. Comments by Julie M. Dant on Tue, 02/19/08 04:00 Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Hmmmm, to weed or not to weed? In the original more of them showed and it seemed more integral, but I think I might crop them..sorry Tom.;0)
Comments by Dennis Hancock on Wed, 02/20/08 03:04 I like the composition and the lighting on the subject is most effective. Nice one. |
