The wrinkled old tree seems to be twisting in slo-mo. Nicely sun dreanched. Good composition.

I like the manner in which the sunlight highlights the tree, the spoked wheel and the small stonework wall and gives them a golden glow... with that in mind I find myself wanting to crop to central 1/3 of the image excluding the more distant scenes on each side of the tree. The picture really works particularly well with a black background... the golden glow of the various elements is both heightened and complemented.

The early/late sun on the tree and its island really makes this photo. Perfect timing.

I agree with the others in that the lighting is perfect to highlight your subject. I like the inclusion of the building in the background. To me it conveys a relationship between the artifacts and the structure. The only minor point I have is with the twigs in the foreground. I find them a bit distracting but this is merely a minor criticism of a very pleasing image.

The lighting is very good and the composition is OK as a starting point toward something better IMO. With the wheels being the subject there's too many distractions in other areas of the scene. The building is so far away that I don't see the connection between the two. A vertical, much closer composition would tell the story. Watch the edge of the frame and there's nothing wrong with tossing out a dead branch like the one on the bricks.

Love the beautiful sunlight and the gnarls in the tree. Nice composition.

Gorgeous light, and a perfect background.

Beautiful interaction between warm light and texture on the tree, with a wonderful setting. I like this a lot! Um, about those weeds in the immediate foreground?

You caught the light beautifully including the distant hills and the shadow between.

The sun on the tree is very effective, Tom likes it- keep the weeds, they add context and depth!

Great light highlighting the old wheels and the textures of the tree trunk. I like the connection of the wheels and the old barn in the distance. I would definately clone out the protruding sticks in the foreground. If they don't add to it... subtract it!

I like the overall composition and the wonderful light. Lovely colors too.

This is a great composition Julie, photographed from just the right position and with the sun catching the main elements of the picture perfectly.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Hmmmm, to weed or not to weed? In the original more of them showed and it seemed more integral, but I think I might crop them..sorry Tom.;0)
Jeff, thanks a bunch for the suggestions. Actually, the title of "Two Old Friends" was referring to the one wheel and the old tree, who might have been paired together for dedades. So being that it was the old tree and the one wheel in which I was interested in, I believe I'll keep the composition as is so I can keep the old tree's arm stretching out over the top of the scene to the left maybe acting as a sort of frame for the old barn back there? ;0) Anyway, that was my intention for the way I cropped it, but I can appreciate what you are saying and why. Oh..and Hey! I liked that dead branch lying there!! ha.

I like the composition and the lighting on the subject is most effective. Nice one.
