Striking contrast in coloring between that of the mushroom and the darkened nature of the background wood. I immediately had the sense on viewing the picture of a jelly fish set against the darkened water. The picture is particularly striking when set against a black background.

I agree with Jan--my first impression was of a jellyfish. Great capture of the textures of the mushroom and the wood. Well done as always!

The lighting was perfect for this one, Ruth. The colour and detail are amazing!

I like the contrast in texture between the mushroom (is that a fly agaric?) and the old wood.

I had the initial jellyfish suggestion too but then it reminded me of one of my grandmother's apple pies.
Wonderful subject and rendition and, against black, the subtlety emerges.

I like the photo very much. Too me, the mushroom has a bit of cyan/green cast to it. For my taste, I would at least try to ajust it with either a levels adjustment or an adjustment using selective color to see if I like that. The background has a nice cool color to it, but I might like to see the yellow and red in the mushroom warmed up to add a bit of contrast. Not too much however, because you don't want the mushroom to be too different from the background.

Very nice use of colours and contrast Ruth.

Nicely set against the grain of the wood. You caught the colours well, too.

Gorgeous! I love the point of view and the beautiful colors. The exposure is superb with
beautiful contrast between the mushroom head and the background and just the right
amount of background detail.

I think this is a great photo, love it!

A very tasty result (even though my first thought was that it was not one that I'd like to try in the kitchen). Well done!

Love the light. Clarity, color and contrast are great.

Are we sure this isn't the top off a Tim Horton's muffin with some oatmeal sprinkled on top ?? :-) very very nice one Ruth !

Nice shot, the colours are overwhelming almost. Would like to see variations of it in black+white with more details visible in the background.

This alien spaceship is, thank, god, being attacked by earth fungus and probably viruses and bacteria, too. I think there may have been a movie made years ago that prophesized this very thing. Nice catch, Ruth! How big was it?

Ok, ok, it was a jellyfish for me, too at first glance.ha. It is beautiful, Ruth. Where did you find this and like Michael, I'm curious as to what size it was? One day I hope I am just half as talented as most of you. I am in constant awe on this site.
