A wintery feel to you composition with the sense of an early morning view of snow covered trees.

A wonderful picture, Dan... :)
Did you use color infrared?

Do digital camera sensors go down into the infrared range? It looks very classical, even if its done with digital.

Great Colors!

Thanks everyone for your comments. This is an infrared image, so despite appearances there is no snow present. To answer Harry's question, digital camera sensors are sensitive to the infrared wavelengths; however, the cameras are manufactured with an internal filter that blocks infrared from reaching the sensor. This photo was taken with a camera that was modified to remove the blocking filter, replacing it with one that admits infrared but blocks most, but not all, of the visible spectrum. (Thus the colors, pure infrared would produce a monochrome image.)

Dear Dan, thanks a lot for the explanations... :)
It would be nice to know where to by such a filter (if it has a part
number and some more detailed specifications).
Simply stunning. I like it so much indeed.

Really tough to critique ...

I'm ambivalent but I keep coming back.

Clearly high production values and it is attractive.

But I'm somehow not entirely comfortable within it for reasons I can't quite put my finger on.

I'm trying to relate to it on it's own terms ...
and I'm fine in "otherworld" but ...

Maybe less sharp gradient in the sky ...
more blue up top ?

Maybe vague unease is the point ...

Pictures of things are easy.
This really isn't ...
at least for me ..

I think that's a good thing ...

Thanks for your thoughts Alias. I reduced the gradient a bit at the top and think it is an improvement. Just for the heck of it here's another version with a warm color scheme that I also like.
