Tawas Lighthouse

Taken early in the morning. This lighthouse is located on the east coast of Michigan, just above the "thumb."

Another striking image! Thanks!

Because the lighthouse itself is almost perfectly centered here, I might crop out the big tree on the left, and also lose the yellow gate at the bottom.

Sometimes centered works, but here it is cropped per your suggestion, Tanya.

So beautiful... :)
I like the lighting and the colors.
I find the OP more balanced and more pleasant to see.
Thank you, Ruth!

Thanks, Ruth! I think you were right to start with ... although I couldn't see what all the extra greenery and the gate were adding to it. Living and learning! T.

That's a nice looking lighthouse. I like the OP better with the exception of the yellow gate. Nice lighting and colors too.

Ditto Sandi's comments :o)

I prefer the opening picture also (again with the exception of the yellow metal grating) with the sunlight highlighting the lighthouse and the attached building serving to create a strong contrast in the image... a 3D feel so to speak.

Beautiful image, Ruth, I like the op better too, but I think the crop removes the gate, which adds a lot, it's really great to see it both ways.

I took a look before any comments showed up and the gate stood out. Others have sent the
gate to the scrap yard so to speak. I'm not sure what one comment means. The gate "adds a
lot" or it's removal "adds a lot." If including it adds to the composition I wonder why. As far
as the lighthouse itself IMO the composition in the OP is very good. The overall structure is
where it should be and the fact that part of it extends into the middle is OK. The crop is OK
too but excessively tight and removes what appears to be nice foreground grasses that could
have been put to better use in the composition if you were able to keep moving forward.

I think the OP is the best composition, but I would have cloned away the yellow gate.
I assume all these lighthoues are now automatic - i.e. no need for a Lighthouse Keeper? In the U.K I understand that the last manned lighthouse became automatic in 1998.

Prefer the OP myself, too. Such a great shot, and lighthing gives it an early morning feel. Well taken, Ruth.

Another vote for the OP. I don't feel the gate detracts from the image at all.
