This pair of red tail hawks were flying back and forth trying to find their nest. No one got injured this day at the park, as they all ran to safty. It took 4 seconds for the eucalyptus trees to fall.

This all took place at Eucalyptus Park in Spring Valley, San Diego County

The trees were side by side and fell in opposite directions

Great mini-documentary
thanks for sharing.

Was the weather rough ?
Only thing I know of which could cause what you describe is a microburst:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microburst

Although I guess the rootball of one tree might have uprooted the other.

A traumatic experience for man and beast. Very fortunate that someone heard the tree falling and managed to get out of the way. There was a similar event in San Francisco earlier this week but in that case a woman was killed by a falling branch from a tree when she was getting into her car.

Must have been quite a shock.

My tele-diagnosis of the accident:
structural collaps of the root system in the left tree.
1 single root collapsed and caused the immediate crash...

Thanks to God that there were no casualties...

Pity for the birdies

/

I love the picture of the blue bird. The colors, contrast and textures are gorgeous and you
cansee in his face he looks a little shooken up. Even if I didn't know what had happened I
would be sympathetic to this little guy. You captured his beauty and fragiliy nicely and I think
it's powerful in iteself.

Dramatic and very interesting series. A well told story. Glad that were no human victims, but I don't think the little birds can survive on the ground. Too young, poor little things...

The OP is a great pic and the story to go with it is a wonderful bonus!

Very good docuumentary. Unfortunate event. I hope the little birds make it.

What a strange event to have happen on a perfect day! I can't imagine how that family all go up out of that picnic table and to safety in time! Your added photos of the pre-fledglings and the uh..gopher?..and your explanations really give your documentary added interest!

Extraordinary photos of all the wildlife affected by the trees falling. I especially love the photo of the groundhog? sticking his nose up though the hole in the ground
