Alluvial Plain

East side of the Sierra Nevada range, often referred to as the Range of Light.
This is a glacial deposit field a short distance west of Independence and the
foot of the mountains. Easily accessible.

I like the perspective with the clarity of detailing from the foreground vegetation through to the distant mountains of the Sierra Nevada range and the sense of texturing that comes through especially from the desert vegetation. One can almost see the glacier in their mind as they look at the V notch in the mountain leading from the snow covered mountains down to the desert floor.

The only remaining glacier in the lower 48 is the Palisade located north of this scene
and west of Big Pine (15 miles south of Bishop). It's a pack-in by backpack or horse.
I've been in the area but haven't seen the glacier but I know it's nothing like the big ones
flowing out of Alaska mountains and may very well be gone one of these years. The
glacier that dumped these smooth granite boulders between the mountains and
Independence is long gone far before our time.

Wonderfully captured -- a truly beautiful scene.

Interesting info about that glacier. I had no idea that there was only one small glacier remaining in the lower 48. I wish I had the energy to backpack in!

I echo Sandi's comments Jeff, I like the subtle colors.

Super viewpoint that allows the V shapes to echo through the image from the foreground shapes to the distant mountains.

Lovely colors indeed, Jeff... :)
I love the many planes and the perspective.

I love the colors, and wouldn't change anything about the composition, but it seems a trifle soft to me, and maybe could use a bit of sharpening?

Washington State's Mt. Rainier has more than ten (1 check0) active glaciers...if Mr.
Fry would kindly check the Internet. Unless, of course, the lower-48 States has lost
the Evergreen State.

Please check

for a little information on glaciers in one area of the lower-48 States.
