Rain, Rain Go Away

It's been raining here every day, several times a day. Taken through the open car window.

I feel like I should be reaching for my umbrella. I can hear the sound of the falling rain and the swishing sound of an approaching car on the roadway. Very effective. How did you achieve the rain effect? Slow shutter speed?

Not the typical scene. Seems like most photogs put their cameras away when the weather turns bad. I think they put themselves away too 8-) Nicely done. If the trees in the background are tall enough I'm seeing a vertical with the mailboxes in the very bottom of the frame and a waterfall effect from the top of the frame to the mailboxes.

The toning, the rainfall sense of the composition, and the setting all work well together to give the picture a painterly feel. This picture works well with a black background which works to create the sense of viewing the setting through a window.

Well spotted. I really like this. The conversion is rather "gentle" and whereas normally I prefer more contrast, for this scene it works perfectly. Jeff's idea is a good one too.

What Steve said - I know the feeling, somewhere in my files is a pic I once took in Scotland after 6 weeks of practically non-stop rain!

Nice scene. Muted tones work very well.

Looks great, even if it is soggy weather.

Well taken in bad weather when our first instinct is to put the camera away. BW was a good choice for this, too.

Good capture plus the B&W treatment is excellent.

I've been watching the radar over the Midwest.
I'm glad you were able to make something good out of it.

I just checked the radar again. there's another wall of water on the way. Why don't you try Jeff's idea of a vertical?
8-)

Ruth, this is a 'Wow' one for me. I wish I had done it! Shoot, I wish I had just taken the mailboxes..which I would have loved even without the rain, but that rain........wow.

Strong image with a slightly depressed mood. It reminds me exactly what it feels like when I've had enough of rain. Well done.

This came out quite nicely, Ruth. It almost looks like a sketching. What a great idea to get the camera out!

Well seen, very nice. Great B&W tones, fitting right in the mood!

I opened the thumbnail because it looked like such a bland image I wanted to see what you had in mind. I couldn't see the rain in the thumbnail. It really makes the picture. Very creative and well done. To be honest I've thinking about trying someting like this for a couple of months, but just been too lazy to do it. After seeing how well it works I'm definitely going to have to try it.
