Assiniboine Park Zoo Winnipeg, Mb.

I was at the Assiniboine Park Zoo on Saturday hoping that I could get some shots of our tigers but all they were doing was sleeping in the shade so I ended up with this picture of the wind ruffled plumage of a flamingo. In CS3 I used the shadow/highlight function (50,5,20).

Taken April 24, 2010. f4.8 1/640 180mm D90

What follows is a series from the pictures I had taken over the past week.

Lilies at the Conservatory in Assiniboine Park. And I used a tripod and by the time I got home I had lost the head of the tripod and I had to buy a new tripod.

See my earlier posting called CP Engine 1594 under flock of engines which showed between 50 and 75 engines parked in this area and now there are only 4 left.

The four units on the far left (SD90-MAC-H) should be the ones that are up for auction on the CP website and have been for quite awhile now.

A severely cropped image of a Snowy Owl... the only one I could find with its eyes open and shooting through a screening really effected the quality of the image.

It must be Spring... Wonder Shows set up at the Forks and I got this image of the Skymaster ride with the two pods overhead full of screaming riders.

I think your best work is when you're bordering on the abstract, like the OP and also posts No. 2 and No. 3. Posts No. 4 and 5 don't have as interesting a pattern in them, but are good shots too. Too bad about the empty rail yard - kind of makes you wonder what technology will displace next...

#2 takes the cake! That's awesome!

I agree with Paul. Second for me (pity the tripod!) closely followed by the OP. I like the crop on the owl too. Wish that screen wasn't there, but one has to take things how they are...

Jan,
the OP and the 2nd image really stand out. Too bad about the tri-pod head. I once left a high end Sekonic light meter on the edge of a stage in a blues club one night, now I take inventory before I leave the scene of the crime (-:

I love the OP the best and the second one is great too. The owl..too bad about the screen but the composition is great...nice eye he has..

I love the flamingo feathers. Such beautiful lines and shades of pink (peach?). Nice lilies too.

My sympathies on the tripod! Although I was cursing mine yesterday, I'd probably feel bad if I lost it.

The OP is lovely.

Love the delicate warm feel to the OP and the second posting gives a hint of new life and spring, lovely

I love the feathers, the color is so beautiful. The lilies have the feel of fingers in the petals, that is so seductive:)), and I love the train yard,I just took some photos of an FL-9, maybe I will post it, but it won't be as good as yours:((. The comp of the owl is so good. The amusement park ride is outstanding.
Great work, Jan, I enjoyed looking at your posts.

A rather diverse set of pictures from you this time Jan - and also to your credit that they were taken during one week. Obviously, I don't get out with the camera often enough!
The feathers is a superb shot and all the others are most interesting.

The opening shot is simply beautiful. There is nothing more I could say or anything I'd be able to offer to make this shot better or more interesting. Your second post is almost Sci-Fi like which I enjoy very much. Kind of reminds me of some alien with long tentacles that's just about to jump out of the frame and grab ya! The third is yet another great shot. I enjoy the diagonal positioning of the tracks but what I love most is that you did not crop out the bend at the bottom of the middle track. Keeps the eyes busy and adds more to the photo which otherwise may have been just any ordinary shot of a train yard. The fourth, although beautiful, would have been better if it were not as soft. Your last post is an all around fun shot. It makes me look forward to all the carnivals and fairs that are headed my way. I hear the sounds of bells ringing, the smell of fresh popped corn and the taste of cotton candy when looking at this shot :o) Another fine series Jan!

The OP is just beautiful, the colors, the flow... The third comes with a story about empty tracks and I think it shows exactly that. The second one feels like some humorous birds with longs necks gossiping.

I love the tonal range on #1 and #2. Excellent work.
