Tempus fugit

It's been weeks already now, but it seems like just yesterday... (Clouds Rest and a distant Half Dome on the right as seen from near Olmstead Point in Tuolumne Meadows)

...and looking back toward Olmstead Point (the distant light spot in the upper left hand corner) from the Cable Route on Half Dome...

Beautiful view with the opening picture caught well in a b&w format. One's view flows across the rock formation ending up at the Half Dome). The second view takes one's breathe away when one realizes the climb necessary to get to the point where you took the picture.

Thanks Jan. You get a pretty good idea how steep it is when you look up at it from Sub Dome, the shoulder that juts out below the climbers in the foreground. You can see the tiny people on Sub Dome in the larger version of that shot, but here they just look like specks. Here's a shot from down there...

My stomachs doing flip flops on the second post. The OP is outstanding. Better than most of
Ansel Adams. He wasn't much for strong foregrounds.

I guess that comment was blasphemous. Sorry Ansel.

Is that like a 60 degree slope? Wow, great shots.

All are excellent. I love the perspective of the last.

WOW. Enough said.

Ditto to all the above. They know better how to say it, to me is easier just to agree:-)

They are all great shots. I like seeing the little ant people climbing up the rock in the last one.

Great stuff !!

I like the first one. But I love the second one. The picture emphasizes the depth and steepness of the climb. Usually the camera - when in my hands - tends to remove the steepness in everything. In this second shot of yours though, it seems to make that path even steeper, if that is possible. Very very nice.

Somehow crazy that there is this walkway up there - and it's choc-a-bloc (?) (I never wrote this down..) with people...
To me it looks very tempting to go up.. do you secure yourself with a clip or just hold on?

Great pics - my favourite is # 2

Adam

It was kind of crazy. And crowded! Things seem to bottle neck at the cables, what with people going up and down at the same time. It didn't seem crowded on top, which was surprisingly huge. We didn't clip into the cable going up (although some people did). We did use gloves to get a better grip on the cable though.

Two excellent photos, Paul. Gives me the eebiejeebies to look down on the second one. Gotta give you credit for climbing up there.

Fantastic! You really captured the magnificence of everything to do with this scene: the size of the dome, the steepness of climb! Thanks for sharing!

Going up would be ok ... coming down another story altogether! Did you have to come down the same way?!

Comments by Paul Bracey on Mon, 11/16/09 17:20

Affirmative. *grin*

Thanks.

Interesting climbing, indeed!
Bravo and thanks for the reportage!
