Dogwood

I love the layered look of dogwood trees, and tried to capture not only that, but its shadows.

I like the contrast between the colors of the dogwood and the background which works to make the flowers stand out strongly in the image, the interplay of light and shadows which creates the visual sense of the dogwood flowers dancing with their shadowy counterparts, and the placement of the dogwood flowers in the picture which works to carry the eyes of the viewer from the left to the right in the image.

A very individualistic shot, with good use of selective colouring. The strong black border is appropriate here, I think.

Thanks, Dave, but not selectively colored. That was the color of the BG, which isn't B&W.

This is a nice photo of the Pink Dogwood Ruth! It is my favorite flowering tree. The blossum has a delicate hardiness to it. Am I correct in thinking that somewhere I read that the Dogwood is in danger of a blight and is in the early stages of dying out if something isn't done? What a shame that would be.
I love the shaddows; adds a whole other effect to the picture.

Very beautiful photograph, Ruth.

I like the curved diagonal of the bow.
The background seems to be fighting with the blossoms though.
Maybe if the background was softer or reduce contrast?

Love those dogwood. Nice the way the sun is lighting them.

Lovely picture, Ruth. Dogwood is the state flower of VA and we have them all over the place, most of them are white. I have two huge pink ones, like in your photo, in my front yard. This picture reminds me of how nice it will be when spring is here and they are in bloom once again. The robins just love to build their nests in ours. I also love the shadows and the contrast they create.

Nice capture Ruth. I like the way the tree that the blossoms are part of is shown almost as an abstract in the background.

Rick, here's what happens when you reduce contrast on the BG.

Beautiful effect, I think the shadows add a lot to it, and I prefer the original version.

Love the dappled light dancing on the shadows of this beautiful dogwood tree on the brown wall. The branches reaching diagonally across the frame give the hope that spring will arrive here soon.

Very nice as is. I feel no conflict problems here. Just love the play of the shadows on the wall, and the color of the flowers.

Ha, neat how the wall shadows create a sensation of lushness.
