Plain Blue Sky

I get stuck sometimes looking out the
window and seeing a boring sky and
deciding not to shoot. This limits
opportunities and growth. Now I am trying
to find compositions that work with
whatever light and sky conditions are
available. Here I wasn't even going to go
out but I found the simple blue sky works
well with the simple white church.
Thoughts?

Another example of boring light, boring
sky that maybe works well here with the
subject and the color.

I find the clear blue sky works well with the church with the sunlight playing across the church facade... I would be more concerned above the empty foreground which, for me, adds nothing to the visual impact of the picture. A tighter cropping from the left to exclude the distant structure leaving the church framed by the trees and bathing in the sunlight back dropped by the blue sky.

Is this what your thinking Jan? Or is too
centered (which I think fits with the
subject)

I like the graphic play between lines of light and shadow.
Might crop only from left and bottom and convert to a high contrast B&W, to enhance that graphic look. I gave it a try, using Calculations for the conversion with a slight adjustment on Levels, and liked the result. A small rotation CCW will also straighten the verticals.
:-) Just my way of seeing it, any way.

The color on the barn with the red roof is great, especially
combined with the orange foreground. Perhaps you could get some
different angles that might eliminate some of the other
buildings/clutter? Just a suggestion. From what I see here, it
might me impossible to get an un-compromised view of the barn.

A friendly (hopefully helpful) suggestion for both photos: they
both need to be straightened vertically. The OP needs only a
slight vertical and perspective correction. The barn is off
vertically by about 1.5 degrees.

If you pass up a good subject because of a "boring sky" I don't believe you're "limiting
growth." You're being observant and paying attention to everything in the scene and not
just the subject. Your church photo seems to be nothing more than an I-was-there one
shot photo due to including a lot of foreground dirt and a mobile home. In just about any
outdoor scene with a lot of sky you can minimize it with a vertical composition if a
vertical still works with your subject. The barn is a great subject. Beyond your overall
comp there's many graphic comps if you're free to move around (no fences) or use a
zoom lens to get tighter here and there.

Thanks Maria and Jacky, I will definitely
rotate ccw. As for the barn this is the
least cluttered view

Thanks Jeff, I appreciate your input.
I had the trailer included just because
that's the general feel of the
"neighborhood" that that church serves.
I'm not sure if I can explain why I
included so much of the gravel parking lot
in the foreground except to say that I did
so intentially even going so far as the
back up and shoot from ground level. I
guess that look failed in this case.
That's what I'm looking for though is
fresh eyes. Thanks
