Fabulous. (Though I think I might try to tone down that bright chunk of lumber in the lhrc.)

The result of flooding?... with the look of the undercut river bank and the deposit of what looks like a spring. A confusion of elements with the sense that those tree trunks we see will be seen next time around lying in the gully.

Thanks Dan. See above for the recommended changes.

Hard to tell which has had the worst of it. The roots or the box springs. Too bad someone
felt it necessary to dump their junk somewhere in the outdoors but it does make an
interesting photo op.

Don't worry Jeff. They are only together in this picture. The photographs of the eroded bank and the box spring were taken many miles apart.

Reminds me of one on this site in the way back.
Perhaps it was yours.
I think the title was "Homeless."

Collage with a mattress. Great image.

This is a worthy follow-up if it was yours.

Fine image in any event.

Ah yes.. you refer to this shot from '06...
(Still one of my favorites)

It was a combination of two shots that I took one late winter day... The blanket, pillow, and pack of smokes were found while hunting for interesting shots in an old small abandoned factory after climbing a steel ladder built into a wall that went up to a small door that gave access to a cold concrete room (with a good size hole in one exterior wall) where a homeless person had obviously been sleeping. The floor was concrete and cold and the thought of someone sleeping there on this meager blanket and pillow, surely shivering in the cold, was so harsh as to be almost unbelievable. But there it was - real. From there (I was shooting with Curtis Salonick, a terrific photographer who works in a similar fashion, but using large negatives and advanced dark room tactics to achieve his composites) we went to another area where I just happened to get some pictures of grass and weeds pushing up through the melting snow. Later still, the images came together by chance while trying out several ideas. The snow and weeds seemed to provide an effective visual impact that helped enhance the harsh coldness of that homeless person's resting place. An alternative title for that piece was "Blanket of Snow" but that seemed to downplay the the sinking feeling I had upon finding that blanket and pillow... "Homeless" seemed to fit the bill and I believe the "baggage" that goes along with the title provided the exact sentiment that the setting of that discovery evoked.
