Pileated Woodpecker

First close sighting of a Pileated Woodpecker, they are
bigger than I thought, I usually see Downy Woodpeckers.

I keep hearing about Pileated Woodpeckers from a birding site I frequent but this is the first one I've actually seen. Very distinctive color which serves to make the woodpecker stand out from both the background and the feeder. Even at this distant there is a catch light in the eye which serves to animate the woodie in the setting.

These woodpeckers are very skittish. This is a great shot. Well done.

Thanks for commenting. Not a sanctuary Don, just an area of forest,
with a few bird feeders. This forest has no signs to let you know
where you are, or how to find you way out, wouldn't want to get lost
in there.
