On this particular visit the pool and inner enclosure were being cleaned so either outside into the polar bear environment or I guess stay in their den. There were four polar bears enjoying themselves in the -25C weather.

It is difficult to put into words how one feels about these creatures. They are an intelligent creature that is also very dangerous and yet like so many things in this world they are effected very intimately by climate change and there may come a day when the polar bear no longer exists in the wild... hopefully not.

So since this exhibit opened I have made a point of trying to come at least once a week to see the polars and to marvel at them. I often wish the polar bear was the national animal of Canada rather than the beaver.

I liked this shot with the breathe of both polar bears being visible.

I liked the ghostly feel of this polar bear shot through frost covered glass.

Thank you, Jan, for sharing these! I have never seen one in the wild, but it is definitely on
my "to do" list. I especially like the 2nd one.

I keep trying but I find it difficult to get a decent shot of a polar bear's eye... mostly just black against their white fur.

Took this shot with my fingers feeling as if they were going to fall off from the cold and this polar bear was ambling along like it was the middle of summer on the way to the beach.

You are getting very good at photographing the polar bears, Jan. I like the original post
very much and also the shot through the frosty glass.
Such impressive animals! I can imagine why you keep going back to visit them.

trio of polar bears relaxing in the sun in the inside portion of their enclosure... their swimming pool is just to the right behind the bears

I'm falling behind. Love the frosty window shots too!
