There was a sunset on October 23th which illuminated various elements in the downtown landscape visible from my apartment window. One of these elements was the Canadian flag atop the Fort Garry Hotel which is just adjacent to the apartment block in which I live.

The flag lit up against a darkened background of city streets and buildings... like a beacon in the darkness.

What follows are further images taken in October.

I just liked the textural feel resulting from applied effects.

Forever Bicycles (Ai Weiwei) and moon

A 30-foot sculptural piece created from 1,254 bicycles by internationally acclaimed artist and activist Ai Weiwei is under construction in Winnipeg.

Titled Forever Bicycles, the sculpture alludes to the bikes that flooded the streets of China, Ai's home country, during his childhood. Despite their seeming omnipresence, bicycles remained financially out of reach for many, including Ai's family.

The delicate colors of the solitary water lily stood out strongly against the darkened water and the water lily pads. One of the last flower images for 2019.

Each image so different from the other. I like them all, except the
last one. I like how in the OP the exhaust fumes balances the image.
The colorful duo strong textual feel, with dynamic R Y G. I like that
one . The b/w. Leading lines and varied tonal values, whats not to
like. The sunset pops, pleasing to my eye. The bike wheels have an
interesting composition, with a moon hovering. I might have cloned
the moon to a true third in the same corner.
Thank Jan.

Wirtgen Cold Milling Machine

Cold milling machines are used for the quick, highly efficient removal of asphalt and concrete pavements.

Hopefully the construction season on the roads around my apartment block are completed for the season now that it is November.

Now if only the construction within my apartment block were over.

And here I thought passenger pigeons were extinct. Good show!

It is a forlorn hope that construction will end. It never ends. By the time they get to the end of a job it will be time to start at the beginning. That's the rule. And the corollary is that jobs will begin at the time most inconvenient for the ones paying for them.

The 5th photo - the sunset shot looks very retro with the softened
detail. It also reflects present environmental concerns as well as a
future apocalypse conveyed by the lowering clouds. It therefore looks
very timeless. Very good!
