I really like the look of this huge old Oak, with those gnarly branches drooping so low to the ground like it is getting soooo tired of holding it all together through the centuries. I wonder how old it is. I'd never heard of a 'Blue' Oak, so I googled it. Wow, some of these trees are really old. I saw one which had been cut down proved by it's rings to be 600 years old! Just love the photo.

It`s not about the blue in the name of the Oak, but about blue (violet)edges of the branches against the sky. That problem kills me on a regular basis, so does a little bit you. Why is that?

Purple fringing perhaps(?)...
Great stoic specimen - nicely done!

With a darkened scene the spreading branches of the big Blue Oak would serve as a wonderful setting for a Halloween creation. What are those growths on the left side of the tree which looks like the spines on some dinosaur?

A beautiful tree, beautifully framed. A tree with characher.

A most worthy specimen. Purple fringing is one of the banes of digital imaging, sometimes directly from a camera's sensor (pixel blooming along lines of contrast) or even from scanning, probably from a simliar cause.

As you say, Tom, purple's gone. At the same time the blue of the sky has turned to a rather greenish caste. Overall, despite the bit of purple, I prefer the op. Such is life, I suppose. In any case, it it a grand tree.
