In her doorway

Taken on my trip to Ghana, December 2004, with my old Kodak DC4800. A local woman in the village I stayed in.

The light is obviously strong with the woman forced to squint for her portrait but at the same time the sunlight works well to highlight her and make her stand out in the doorway.

Direct sunlight is seldom the best choice for a portrait, but sometimes there is no choice. In this case, some post processing steps to soften the light, make the shadows and highlights a bit less harsh, would probably help. Still, it's a strong image, and conveys the strength and dignity of the person, and that is, after all, the most important objective. I do like the environment you placed her in very much, as it is simple yet informative, and the colors help the image work.

I love her smile and relaxed pose.

I see it the same way as Frank - nice relaxed pose.

A very beautiful woman, indeed...
And an excellent, perfect portait

I'm not sure she is squinting...it may just be the way her eyes look when she smiles. I think it's a great very relaxed portraiture of the Ghana lady. I think it is great job taking into account the sun was obviously strong. Nice work handling that situation, Rory.
