I thought initially when I viewed the thumbnail that I would open to a snow covered image... glad I opened to see your high contrast composition. There is the feel of heat at midday with the sun having sucked all the color out of the urban landscape. I like the inclusion of the lamp lights (I wonder what this setting would look like in the evening with the lamps lit?). I particularly like your composition when a black background is made use of.

Like Jan I expected to see snow, it's surprising how our brains can so easily be led in certain directions by visual signals. I like this extreme view of this area.

Works well, with good design elements and the humanizing effect of the solitary figure. I might have cropped a little from the bottom.
