A Grand Light

Canon 5dm2, 24-70 -1 1/2 stops to get this scene to appear moody. Grand Canyon, South Rim, Maricopa Point looking North/East. The second post appears to me to be a good crop but would like your opinion. Thanks!!!

I like the manner in which you captured the sunlight highlighted the rugged slopes of the Grand Canyon, the interplay of sunlight and shadows, and the contrast between the rugged broken rock formation of the canyon and the almost ruler like straight nature of the distant ridge. I prefer the slightly tighter cropped comment version...

These are both great images, views that you would see in a National Geographic magazine. I prefer the crop on the 2nd image, though prefer the contrast on the OP.

The crop is much better, imo. The first thing I thought when I saw the OP was that the darkness in the bottom half of the image was overwhelming and distracting; the crop fixes that.

Very nice shot!

I disagree. One of the strong points in the OP is how the light fades away on the cliff on the right. I much prefer that version.

Good morning Greg. I like the OP but prefer the cropped version. In the cropped version
there's detail in the lower area but still a smooth transition from shadow to highlight. In the
OP there's no detail at all in the LLHC area. The curvy line of cliffs show up better in the
crop.

Either version works for me. My eyes are drawn immediately to the central portion of the image where the light streams accross the mountains and sky thus exposing the textures.

I'm with Paul.
Like it best on black,
but wish there were a 1 pix charcoal border.
And wish we could dim the text with the black background.

Ditto! The OP emphasizes the sunny highlights.

Initially I ws drawn to the OP as my preference but viewing here tonight in a darkened room the cropped version dominates.

Both beautiful. I prefer the second version due to more detail in the lower canyon.

original. no question.

The cropped version has been proccessed differently and lightened up the lower areas that are present in both images. The OP for me but with a little bit more detail as has come out in the second post.

For me the grandeur and depth sense of scale is lost in the cropped version, but whatever, a fine capture to be proud of.

Ken Burns couldn't do it any better.
