My Barn

This is a barn in CO. I helped build it when I was 12.

Now this is a real memory piece... you helped to build the barn and now you have created a striking photograph of the structure. I like the lighting (stormy moody feel), the contrast between the lightness of the grasses and the dark sky (seems to heighten that darkness), and I really like the coloring of the sky (that blue on grey of the sky). For the sake of this image I can live with the wiring (I could never clone it out without destroying the grey sky).

This is a great barn with a great sky !
I do think there is a little too much foreground which puts the horizon about i/2 way up in the image.
I took the liberty of cropping for a little different look.

This is the crop I did so it would fit a poster. But its not the same picture without the flowers in the forground. Sometimes the rule of thirds just has to be broken.

Beautiful memories, Alisha... :)

I really like the OP. I agree with Alisha about the inclusion of the flowers. My only nit is with someone who would copy another person's image, fiddle with it and then re-post it. Are we now supposed to comment on your image. How would you feel if I were to walk into your house and just start to rearrange your furniture? I could tell you how I think the furniture should be changed but it is not right for me to just move things around. Think what would happen if I were to actually paint eyebrows on the Mona Lisa. Leave other people's images alone!

The 50/50 composition doesn't work for me. Maybe you could have found some flowers that were in a better location, Alisha? As they are, they aren't sharp. You've focused on the barn, and don't have sufficient depth of field to include the flowers.

I kind of agree with Linda. And, I don't think the flowers are interesting or sharp enough to really matter. The sky is great and very dramatic, so loosing a bit of foreground in Dennis's cropped example gives more presence to the barn.

Personally, I like the iclusion of flowers. Alisha you could have solved the problem by taking the photos from a lower point of view. Even as it is you can solve by selecting the foreground in photoshop or any other editing program with the selection tool then click on the move tool and drag it upwards. If you want you can send me an email on ruggieru_azzopardi@yahoo.com and I will explain to you how to do it in more detail.
