There is a sense of a long slog if one follows the road that the lone individual is walking down (I might have lightened the image slightly to evoke more of the foreground road) and you follow what I take to be road down into the valley and then along the distant mountain side.

A sense of loneliness is evoked by the b&w format, the solitary walker and just the nature of the setting.
