2011 World Championship Freestyle in Reining

Greetings All !! This is my first post on a photo critique site - hoping for some good, candid advice.

Shot with Canon 7d, Canon EF 70-300 f4-5.6 @ 115.0mm, 1/200, 4.5, ISO 3200. Shot from the high stands. Lighting was tough - variable intensity spotlight on the rider. Got lucky with a few. Still having a tought time getting the right combination of apature/time/ISO.

The kicked up dirt adds further to the sense of energy that is created by horse and rider. Both the rider and the horse stand out well in the image with the quality of the available lighting helping to further enhance the horse's presence in the image.

Peak of action in difficult lighting. Your camera handled it very well and you did the rest,
maybe with a dose of luck for good measure. I'd crop on the left just enough to get rid of a
reddish triangle. Your comment about "tough time" refers to what? This type of photo/event
or just in general? It would appear your camera settings were perfect for this type of shot.
Might be fun to try a slower shutter speed or pan for an overall blur/streaked effect
(abstract).

So powerful, Joseph... :)
Almost dramatic.
