I like the quality of the light which works to bring a moody feel to the image. I do find that I would prefer a slightly tighter cropping... same distance from all 4 edges just to give more presence to the highlighted tree at the centre of the image. Not sure what you are testing for but welcome to PC.

Would be helpful to know what you were testing. Any critique is pointless without knowing.

As you can see, I am new to this forum. I joined this forum hoping to
get some feedback / constructive criticism / tips to improve my
photography. To be honest, I wasn't sure if I was posting in the right
section - hence the title test. I tried to edit the title and
description, but it wont let me do it after posting :(.

This was taken on the night of the recent storm in New London RI. This
tree looked interesting and I had to take a picture. Now, I am looking
for critics to tell me what I got right and what I could have done to
make it a better picture.

Jan, Thanks for your advice. I will try cropping it.

The crop would be helpful because the lights and other tree aren't needed, however,
there appears to be a sharpness problem. If it's not sharp then it ends as a learning
experience. I thought you were testing a camera, lens, etc. Keep posting.

When composing this, you might have stepped to the right a little to block out the
building with the snowy spruce branches. Welcome to PC.

Jeff, the sharpness problem is mostly because I am new to D5100 or
because my hands were frozen that night (it was like 15ish and I was in
shorts and a tee :)). I tried different angles, but this one had the
least distractions.

Lynda, Thanks for the welcome, I did try different angles, but this one
had the least distractions. But I agree, I should have tried more
angles.
