Let me say that the compression artifacts you see here are not visible in the original.

I would agree that one feels as if they are flying one albatross over. The contrast between that of the albatross and the hue of the clouds serves to make the bird visually "pop" in the picture. The detailing and the catchlight in the eye adds to the visual impact of the picture, for me.

Very good capture of the bird with good details. The color in the sky is a bit odd though.

I LIKE that slightly odd coloring!

It's probably bad form to explain why you do something, but I'll go ahead anyway just because I'd like to! Albatrosses are ocean-going birds and live most of time out away from land. Think about that. In all that weather and rough seas there they are flying and floating and living and dying.

I wanted to portray one in its element: the ocean and the air above it. How to combine them? This composition is just an attempt to do that, albeit with an odd color for a sky though not so odd for an ocean.

Wonderful! Aqua-blue sky = very cool idea. And very nice lighting on that albatross.

I love the color of the sky and the way the sunlight is highlighting the Albatross's head and features and partial breast. I think this is absolutely amazing, Michael. ;0)
