secondary screw fly (not the green bottle fly I first thought it was)

I particularly like the second photograph with the head on view of the fly... I keep thinking yech! as I view the picture but nevertheless a striking image with a sharp clarity of detailing.

Fantastic, both. My camera/lens can not do that.

Black-eyed Susans are great for attracting all kinds of bugs. They must offer a a very flavorful nectar/pollen/whatever.

Very nice, Mr. Meek.

I prefer the pin sharp focus in the second photo. The image is delightful.

The first image shows blurriness of upper thorax and head.

Composition and color are excellent in both images.

Agree with Larry. I don't like looking at house fly images but your fly doesn't bother me for some reason...it's not a bad looking face! Good job.;-)

Love the second. Wish the petal framed the entire fly on the first.

Both are superb. What lens are you using. They are tack sharp.

Ruth, the lens is the Nikon 105. It is close to twenty-years old and lived on Kauai for eight years, but it still functions even with some fungus causing some softness. I have begun using Nik Sharpener also.

Flies are rather yucky, but you have to admit they are a successful order of creatures. They are among the most evolved of all the insects and some like the house fly have supernatural flying ability.

What creeps me out about the house fly and others is that when you look at them under magnification, you see their extended mouth parts sitting on whatever it is they have landed on ready to spit and sponge up whatever gets dissolved. Skin of human is attractive to them for a reason: lunch.
