Sorry, just posted this comment as the image did not open in the new
submission area. Thanks

I like the sense of layering moving from water through to the trees (with the feeling as you mention of the sombrero on a human head), the strong sense of texturing that comes through in the image (one really feels as if they could reach right into the image and feel the wet rocks) and the range of toning (especially apparent for me with the image set against a black background).

I cannot remember if you mentioned it but do you use Nik... I just like the nature of the image in terms of the detailing and the sense of texturing that is created.

Yes, Lightroom, Nik and Photoshop was used on this image's
processing. Original was shot in RAW. All of my images have always
been shot in Raw since my old Canon G5. The G2 had no RAW...I think
it came out with the G5.

That's a nice scene. Balance wise my eye says it needs more top but not at
the expense of the bottom. What Paul said elsewhere on sharpening.

It's a wonderful location and a fine angle for shooting. Perhaps it's just my
monitor, but this as well as your other photos come through as overly
sharpened. Or is it an HDR effect? Or does it need to been seen large and from
farther away than the desktop allows? I am wishing for a smoother texture
overall. And I'll be the first to say that it may just be a matter of differing tastes.
Love the shot though. Must have been grand to see.

Nice composition. :)

Really, really cool. I like the feel. It does have an over-sharpened feel, but I'm guessing this was quite purposeful on your part, knowing your previous stuff. All in all, the processing really helps to grab your attention. As Ernest suggested, I wonder how it would look taller/longer -- with more trees at the top?

Thanks everyone for your views on this image as per comp and
looks/feel. It is very easy to push things to far and I do try to
walk a fine line between natural and manipulation. On these portrait
oriented shots its tough to see what I am aiming at when I am
creating for the print size look. Landscape orientation presents much
better on the Web jpeg conversions. But it is helpful to have people
pointing things out to keep me in check. ! Thanks and have a great
day
