The higher perspective brings the trees into more play in the setting creating the sense of webbing to hinder the flow of the water through the rocks. I find my eyes moving from the foreground cascade of water along the stream to the distant opening to the sky... creates the relationship between the clouds, the rain and the resulting flow of water.

I like this much better than the horizontal version. I think it's because the vertical brings
the trees into a stronger part of the composition.
