Comments by Jan Bjorklund on Thu, 08/31/17 13:57 I like this image with a black background which seems to extend the feel of the night time setting as one views the sky. Usually one would prefer a clear sky to see the star display but the clouds formation, in this case, adds to the visual impact of the setting and also because the clouds create a sense of flow to draw the viewer vertically from top to bottom in the image. What I take to be the headlights of a vehicle on the right adds to the sense of loneliness evoked by the setting. I guess Wyoming as the setting? The big peak in the distance is the Grand Teton and the saddle to the left of the peak is where I shot the eclipse. The elevation in the saddle is 11,700 above sea level. We bagged the summit of the Grand the day after the eclipse. At the time of the eclipse, there were between 40 and 50 people on the summit. It's not a very large summit. In the foreground, you can see one of the barns on Mormon Row as a car passes in the night along the outer park road. Comments by Sandi MacDonald on Thu, 08/31/17 14:32 Wow! A recent article in the newspaper stated that looking east from Joshua Tree NP is some of the darkest sky in the U.S. for this type of photography. Not west though. That's toward L.A.
