Snowy Owl

Standing in a farmer's field waiting for something to
happen in -12f or -24c. Usually he takes off showing his
tail, this time he showed his face.

The contrast between the snowy owl and the background sky serves to bring the illusion of movement and one has the sense of the prey that is focused on by the owl with the bird suddenly dropping from the sky to grasp that prey in its talons. Really drawn by the end feathers on the owl's wings which always create the illusion for me of fingers and swimming through the air.

Good catch, Steve. Not easy getting a shot of a owl in motion.;-)

Thank you for your comments.

Last year it was a Great Grey Owl, that came down from the north.
They only visit every 4 or 5 years. This year it is the Snowy Owl
that made it's presence known. Along with Snow Buntings and Horned
Larks.

I used my 75-300mm Nikon, Manual F8 at 1/2500 Auto iso, no VR.
